Darkness, sudden flash of light, empty streets, foreigner, Asian, lone young female, unknown origin, meaning obscure...

At night, in the supposedly idyllic middle class suburbs of London, an Asian female appears on residential streets which no one would go unless one lives there. She keeps on triggering security lights of houses by walking pass them, keeps appearing on the screen, stinging the paranoiac’s nerve of the quiet suburb, eliciting all kinds of suspicion and imagination for crimes.

The action challenges the notion of stranger=danger with my double identity as female (often thought of being the weak and therefore in need of sympathy and protection) and foreigner (every stranger is a potential source of harm), and questions our fear for the unfamiliar.

This is also where light, the symbol of warmth and hope, or the search for light takes on a double meaning and creates a dilemma.
